1 Brooks, Victoria (Editor); Bowles, Paul (Foreword); Shacochis, Bob (Introduction) Literary Trips: Following in the Footsteps of Fame
Vancouver, BC, Canada GreatestEscapes Publishing 2000 0968613705 / 9780968613702 Trade Paperback Near-Fine Ignatius, Alex
Near-fine condition. NO remainder marks or clippings. Tight spine, bright pages. Covers are bright and clean (NO tears). NO writing, marks or tears inside book. 363 pages. Nicely illustrated throughout. Synopsis Victoria Brooks is creator and editor of the highly acclaimed Literary Trips: Following in the Footsteps of Fame series. The first volume is a finalist in the prestigious Foreword Magazine Book of the Year Awards. It has also been named a main selection with Adam Gopnic's New York Times bestseller at Quality Paperback Book Club. Literary Trips is a compilation of short stories by professional writers about famous literary figures and the destinations they made famous. Each chapter is paired with comprehensive guidebook info -- making it a new concept in publishing. Victoria contributed three stories to Volume I including "Paul Bowles: Dreaming in Tangier." At Victoria's request, Paul Bowles (The Sheltering Sky) wrote the foreword for Literary Trips. He did so against all odds, and shortly before he died. The book has received excellent and high profile media attention across North America, and has been featured in publications such as the New York Times Syndicate, USA Today, the Chicago Tribune and Publishers Weekly among many others. Quill and Quire said, "The most poignant and effective contribution is editor Victoria Brooks' piece on Paul Bowles in Tangier." From The Mature Traveler: "Her glowing homage to Bowles' life, his work, and the mysterious Moroccan ambiance provides a fitting epitaph for him and sets the bar very high for the literary quality of the 22 vignettes that follow." Former Millionaire and Elle editor Vanessa Berkling wrote: "Victoria Brooks takes you on an adventure in magnificence and style. A connoisseur of travel, she provides explorations for the spellbound traveler and a philosophy of literature born out of the delight of discovering remote places." Victoria started dreaming, traveling, and writing about her travels when she was ten. She is a little older now and a member of the prestigious SATW (Society of American Travel Writers), ASJA (American Society of Journalists and Authors), TWUC (The Writers Union Canada), PWAC (Periodical Writer's Association Canada) and TMAC (Traveler's Media Association Canada). Victoria is a successful travel writer, editor and seven-times-published travel book author. Her short story and mood-style travel features appear in North American travel and lifestyle magazines and worldwide in Internet publications. She is currently the resident travel expert for Elle magazine on-line, answering questions from readers on various topics. She also serves as editor-in-chief of the popular Internet travel webzine GreatestEscapes. Victoria's role as the creator, editor, and a contributor to Literary Trips and GreatestEscapes.com has led to involvement with various media. She has been interviewed on national radio and television, and by CNX Media for a round up of the literary lights and their worldwide destinations. She has appeared on syndicated radio programs across the U.S., including National Public Radio's "Weekend Edition." She has served as USA Today's Guest Expert for an edition of their "Ten Best" series of travel articles and appeared at the 2001 Rocky Mountain Book Festival.
