2 Dietz,William C. For Those Who Fell: A Novel of the Legion of the Damned
ACE Books 2005 0441012671 / 9780441012671 Mass Market Paperback Fine
Near-new condition. Appears unread. NO remainder marks or clippings. Tight spine, clean pages. NO writing, marks or tears inside book. 410 pages. From Publishers Weekly: Careful plotting and realistically messy detail help lift Dietz's sixth military SF novel (after 2003's For More Than Glory) about the Legion of the Damned, an army of biobod humans, aliens and brain boxes installed in mechanical bodies, which defends the Confederacy of Sentient Beings against any threat. The present enemy, the insectoid Ramanthians, needs more planets to accommodate their queen's billions of eggs. When the Confederacy learns that a Ramanthian research outpost has developed a communications device that could win the war, an expedition sets out to capture the new technology. In particular, a young first lieutenant must lead his troops through the perils of jungle, desert and ambush by psychotic renegades. Meanwhile, a young woman diplomat discovers that one of the Confederacy's alien races is secretly aiding the Ramanthians. Characters attempt to gather information, make political alliances and maneuver skillfully, but often their efforts degenerate into groping, murderous frenzy. Dietz expertly jumps from one theater of combat to another, one side to another, to show the opponents planning but then improvising as plans go awry. Even if the novel's action sometimes is as manipulative as a WWF Smackdown, it still gives a genuine adrenaline rush. Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc.

3 Dietz, William C. Star Wars: Dark Forces Rebel Agent
Putnam / A Dark Horse Comic 1998 0399143963 / 9780399143960 Hard Cover Fine Fine Tucker, Ezra
Near-new condition. NO remainder marks or price clippings. Over-sized hardback. Illustrated throughout. NO writing, marks or tears inside book. 128 pages. The phenomenal success of the 1997 release of the Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition proved beyond a doubt the timeless power of the much-loved story about the struggle between good and evil. Original enthusiasts of the films rushed to the theaters to see them again, joined by a whole new generation--young people discovering the wonder of George Lucas's vision for the first time. For those Star Wars fans--old and new--Rebel Agent, the second of the Dark Forces trilogy, adds a fascinating sidebar to the story told in the films. Kyle Katarn, former Imperial trainee, has put his past behind him. Now partnered with Jan Ors, the woman who recruited him, he is a valued member of the Rebel Alliance. Yet Katarn has one piece of unfinished business more important to him than his next assignment: tracking down the Dark Jedi Jerec, the man who killed his father. But in his search for Jerec, he finds instead what the Dark Jedi himself is after--the location of the fabled Valley of the Jedi. The power that waits there is beyond measure, and Jerec will stop at nothing to be the first to reach it. It is written, Luke Skywalker said, that a Knight will come, a battle will be fought, and the prisoners go free. In Rebel Agent, Kyle Katarn will discover that he is that Knight.

4 Dietz, William C. Star Wars: Dark Forces: Soldier for the Empire
Putnam / Dark Horse Comics 1997 0399141987 / 9780399141980 Hard Cover Fine Fine Williams, Dean
Near-new condition. NO remainder marks or price clippings. Illustrations by Dean Williams. Tight spine, clean pages. Over-sized hardback. NO writing, marks or tears inside book. In Soldier for the Empire, writer William Dietz and painter Dean Williams have accomplished something rare among the numerous spinoffs of the Star Wars films: a story that captures the essence of Star Wars while charting new territory in terms of character development. The story is a simple one. Like Luke Skywalker, Kyle Katarn is a young farm boy who dreams of the stars. But for Kyle, the way off his home world is through the Imperial Military Academy, not through a Jedi mentor. Just as Kyle reaches the end of his training in a vicious firefight on a Rebel-held asteroid, his father, Morgan, is killed in an Imperial attack. As he learns the truth behind his father's death, Kyle is awakened to a terrifying vision of the Empire that he has grown to respect, and he suddenly finds himself working for the Rebels to steal plans for the newly completed Death Star. By integrating Kyle's tale into the actual plot of Star Wars, Deitz makes his novel especially relevant for Star Wars fans. But what really drives Soldier for the Empire are the grim details that bring the war to life. Dietz's vision of the Empire recounts the awesome discipline of Nazi Germany, and his descriptions of Dark Jedi Jerec are reminiscent of the twisted minds that must always stand behind organized evil. At the same time, by going inside the Empire (and into the psyches of Storm Troopers), Dietz reveals the seductive power of that evil. Dean Williams's award-winning paintings are a perfect complement to the story, creating a cinematic life for the text. Kyle's tale continues in Rebel Agent and Jedi Knight. --Patrick O'Kelley
